Chapter 2
KJV · Textus Receptus
Blow ye thetrumpet inZion, and sound analarm in myholymountain: let all theinhabitants of thelandtremble: for theday of theLORDcometh, for it is nigh at hand;
Aday ofdarkness and ofgloominess, aday ofclouds and of thickdarkness, as themorningspread upon themountains: agreatpeople and astrong; there hath notbeenever the like, neither shall be anymoreafter it, even to theyears ofmany generations.
Afiredevourethbefore them; andbehind them aflameburneth: theland is as thegarden ofEdenbefore them, andbehind them adesolatewilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them.
Theappearance of them is as theappearance ofhorses; and ashorsemen, so shall they run.
Like thenoise ofchariots on thetops ofmountains shall theyleap, like thenoise of aflame offire thatdevoureth thestubble, as astrongpeople set inbattle array.
Before theirface thepeople shall be muchpained: allfaces shallgather blackness.
They shallrun like mightymen; they shallclimb thewall likemen ofwar; and they shallmarch everyone on hisways, and they shall notbreak their ranks:
Neither shallonethrustanother; they shallwalk everyone in hispath: and when theyfall upon thesword, they shall not be wounded.
They shall run to andfro in thecity; they shallrun upon thewall, they shall climbup upon thehouses; they shall enterin at thewindows like a thief.
Theearth shallquakebefore them; theheavens shalltremble: thesun and themoon shall bedark, and thestars shallwithdraw their shining:
And theLORD shallutter hisvoicebefore hisarmy: for hiscamp isverygreat: for he isstrong thatexecuteth hisword: for theday of theLORD isgreat andveryterrible; and who can abide it?
Therefore also now, saith theLORD,turn ye even to me with all yourheart, and withfasting, and withweeping, and with mourning:
Andrend yourheart, and not yourgarments, andturn unto theLORD yourGod: for he isgracious andmerciful, slow toanger, and ofgreatkindness, andrepenteth him of the evil.
Whoknoweth if he willreturn andrepent, andleave ablessingbehind him; even a meatoffering and a drinkoffering unto theLORD your God?
Blow thetrumpet inZion,sanctify afast,call a solemn assembly:
Gather thepeople, sanctify thecongregation, assemble theelders, gather thechildren, and those thatsuck thebreasts: let thebridegroom goforth of hischamber, and thebride out of her closet.
Let thepriests, theministers of theLORD,weep between theporch and thealtar, and let themsay,Spare thypeople, OLORD, andgive not thineheritage toreproach, that theheathen should ruleover them: wherefore should theysay among thepeople, Where is their God?
Then will theLORD bejealous for hisland, andpity his people.
Yea, theLORD willanswer andsay unto hispeople, Behold, I willsend youcorn, andwine, andoil, and ye shall besatisfied therewith: and I will no moremake you areproach among the heathen:
But I will remove faroff from you thenorthern army, and willdrive him into alandbarren anddesolate, with hisface toward theeastsea, and his hinderpart toward theutmostsea, and hisstink shall comeup, and his illsavour shall comeup, because he hathdone great things.
Fear not, Oland; beglad andrejoice: for theLORD willdo great things.
Be notafraid, yebeasts of thefield: for thepastures of thewilderness dospring, for thetreebeareth herfruit, the figtree and thevine doyield their strength.
Beglad then, yechildren ofZion, andrejoice in theLORD yourGod: for he hathgiven you the formerrainmoderately, and he will cause to comedown for you therain, the formerrain, and the latterrain in the first month.
And thefloors shall befull ofwheat, and thefats shalloverflow withwine and oil.
And I willrestore to you theyears that thelocust hatheaten, thecankerworm, and thecaterpiller, and thepalmerworm, mygreatarmy which I sent among you.
And ye shalleat inplenty, and besatisfied, andpraise thename of theLORD yourGod, that hathdealtwondrously with you: and mypeople shallnever be ashamed.
And ye shallknow that I am in themidst ofIsrael, and that I am theLORD yourGod, and none else: and mypeople shallnever be ashamed.
And it shall come to passafterward, that I will pourout myspirit upon allflesh; and yoursons and yourdaughters shallprophesy, your oldmen shalldreamdreams, your youngmen shallsee visions:
And also upon theservants and upon thehandmaids in thosedays will I pourout my spirit.
And I willshewwonders in theheavens and in theearth, blood, andfire, andpillars of smoke.
Thesun shall beturned intodarkness, and themoon intoblood, before thegreat and theterribleday of theLORD come.
And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shallcall on thename of theLORD shall bedelivered: for inmountZion and inJerusalem shall bedeliverance, as theLORD hathsaid, and in theremnant whom theLORD shall call.
