And theword of theLORD came untoJonah thesecond time, saying,
Arise,go untoNineveh, thatgreatcity, andpreach unto it thepreaching that I bid thee.
SoJonaharose, andwent untoNineveh, according to theword of theLORD. NowNineveh was anexceedinggreatcity ofthreedays' journey.
AndJonahbegan toenter into thecityaday'sjourney, and hecried, andsaid, Yetfortydays, andNineveh shall be overthrown.
So thepeople ofNinevehbelievedGod, andproclaimed afast, andput onsackcloth, from thegreatest of them even to the least of them.
Forwordcame unto theking ofNineveh, and hearose from histhrone, and helaid hisrobe from him, andcovered him withsackcloth, andsat in ashes.
And he caused it to beproclaimed andpublished throughNineveh by thedecree of theking and hisnobles, saying, Let neitherman norbeast, herd norflock, taste anything: let them notfeed, nordrink water:
But letman andbeast becovered withsackcloth, andcrymightily untoGod: yea, let themturn everyone from hisevilway, and from theviolence that is in their hands.
Who cantell ifGod willturn andrepent, and turnaway from hisfierceanger, that we perish not?
AndGodsaw theirworks, that theyturned from theirevilway; andGodrepented of theevil, that he hadsaid that he woulddo unto them; and he did it not.
