Chapter 2
KJV · Textus Receptus
AndJoshua theson ofNunsent out ofShittimtwomen tospysecretly, saying,Goview theland, evenJericho. And theywent, andcame into anharlot'shouse, namedRahab, and lodged there.
And it wastold theking ofJericho, saying, Behold, therecamemen in hither tonight of thechildren ofIsrael to searchout the country.
And theking ofJerichosent untoRahab, saying, Bringforth themen that arecome to thee, which areentered into thinehouse: for they become to searchout all the country.
And thewomantook thetwomen, andhid them, andsaid thus, Therecamemen unto me, but Iwist not whence they were:
And it came to pass about the time ofshutting of thegate, when it wasdark, that themen wentout: whither themenwent Iwot not:pursueafter themquickly; for ye shall overtake them.
But she had brought themup to theroof of the house, andhid them with thestalks offlax, which she had laid inorder upon the roof.
And themenpursuedafter them theway toJordan unto thefords: and as soon as they whichpursuedafter them were goneout, theyshut the gate.
And before they were laiddown, she cameup unto them upon the roof;
And shesaid unto themen, Iknow that theLORD hathgiven you theland, and that yourterror isfallen upon us, and that all theinhabitants of thelandfaint because of you.
For we haveheard how theLORD driedup thewater of theRedsea foryou, when ye cameout ofEgypt; and what yedid unto thetwokings of theAmorites, that were on the othersideJordan,Sihon andOg, whom ye utterly destroyed.
And as soon as we hadheard these things, ourhearts didmelt, neither did thereremain any morecourage in anyman, because of you: for theLORD yourGod, he isGod inheavenabove, and in earth beneath.
Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by theLORD,since I haveshewed youkindness, that ye will alsoshewkindness unto myfather'shouse, andgive me atrue token:
And that ye will savealive myfather, and mymother, and mybrethren, and mysisters, and all that they have, anddeliver ourlives from death.
And themenanswered her, Ourlife foryours, if yeutter not this ourbusiness. And it shall be, when theLORD hathgiven us theland, that we willdealkindly and truly with thee.
Then she let themdown by acordthrough thewindow: for herhouse was upon thetownwall, and shedwelt upon the wall.
And shesaid unto them,Get you to themountain, lest thepursuersmeet you; andhide yourselves therethreedays, until thepursuers bereturned: andafterward may yego your way.
And themensaid unto her, We will beblameless of this thineoath which thou hast made us swear.
Behold, when wecome into theland, thou shaltbind thisline ofscarletthread in thewindow which thou didst let us downby: and thou shaltbring thyfather, and thymother, and thybrethren, and all thyfather'shousehold, home unto thee.
And it shall be, thatwhosoever shall goout of thedoors of thyhouse into thestreet, hisblood shall be upon hishead, and we will beguiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in thehouse, hisblood shall be on ourhead, if any hand be upon him.
And if thouutter this ourbusiness, then we will bequit of thineoath which thou hast made us to swear.
And shesaid, According unto yourwords, so be it. And she sent themaway, and theydeparted: and shebound thescarletline in the window.
And theywent, andcame unto themountain, andabode therethreedays, until thepursuers werereturned: and thepursuerssought them throughout all theway, but found them not.
So thetwomenreturned, anddescended from themountain, and passedover, andcame toJoshua theson ofNun, andtold him all things that befell them:
And theysaid untoJoshua,Truly theLORD hathdelivered into ourhands all theland; for even all theinhabitants of thecountry dofaint because of us.
