Joshua
Chapter 6
KJV · Textus Receptus
NowJericho wasstraitly shutupbecause of thechildren ofIsrael: none wentout, and none came in.
And theLORDsaid untoJoshua,See, I havegiven into thinehandJericho, and theking thereof, and the mightymen of valour.
And ye shallcompass thecity, all yemen ofwar, and go roundabout thecityonce. Thus shalt thoudosix days.
Andsevenpriests shallbearbefore thearkseventrumpets of rams'horns: and theseventhday ye shallcompass thecityseventimes, and thepriests shallblow with the trumpets.
And it shall come to pass, that when they make along blast with theram'shorn, and when yehear thesound of thetrumpet, all thepeople shallshout with agreatshout; and thewall of thecity shall falldownflat, and thepeople shall ascendup every man straight before him.
AndJoshua theson ofNuncalled thepriests, andsaid unto them, Takeup theark of thecovenant, and letsevenpriestsbearseventrumpets of rams'hornsbefore theark of the LORD.
And hesaid unto thepeople, Passon, andcompass thecity, and let him that isarmed passonbefore theark of the LORD.
And it came to pass, whenJoshua hadspoken unto thepeople, that thesevenpriestsbearing theseventrumpets of rams'horns passedonbefore theLORD, andblew with thetrumpets: and theark of thecovenant of theLORDfollowed them.
And thearmed menwentbefore thepriests thatblew with thetrumpets, and thererewardcameafter theark, the priests goingon, andblowing with the trumpets.
AndJoshua hadcommanded thepeople, saying, Ye shall notshout, nor make anynoise with yourvoice, neither shall anywordproceed out of yourmouth, until theday Ibid youshout; then shall ye shout.
So theark of theLORDcompassed thecity, goingabout itonce: and theycame into thecamp, andlodged in the camp.
AndJoshua roseearly in themorning, and thepriests tookup theark of the LORD.
Andsevenpriestsbearingseventrumpets of rams'hornsbefore theark of theLORD wentoncontinually, andblew with thetrumpets: and the armedmenwentbefore them; but thererewardcameafter theark of theLORD, the priests goingon, andblowing with the trumpets.
And thesecondday theycompassed thecityonce, andreturned into thecamp: so theydidsix days.
And it came to pass on theseventhday, that they roseearly about thedawning of theday, andcompassed thecity after the samemannerseventimes: only on thatday theycompassed thecityseven times.
And it came to pass at theseventhtime, when thepriestsblew with thetrumpets,Joshuasaid unto thepeople,Shout; for theLORD hathgiven you the city.
And thecity shall beaccursed, even it, and all that are therein, to theLORD: onlyRahab theharlot shalllive, she and all that are with her in thehouse, because shehid themessengers that we sent.
And ye, in anywisekeep yourselves from the accursedthing, lest ye make yourselvesaccursed, when yetake of the accursedthing, andmake thecamp ofIsrael acurse, and trouble it.
But all thesilver, andgold, andvessels ofbrass andiron, areconsecrated unto theLORD: they shallcome into thetreasury of the LORD.
So thepeopleshouted when the priestsblew with thetrumpets: and it came to pass, when thepeopleheard thesound of thetrumpet, and thepeopleshouted with agreatshout, that thewall fell downflat, so that thepeople wentup into thecity, everyman straight before him, and theytook the city.
And they utterlydestroyed all that was in thecity, bothman andwoman, young andold, andox, andsheep, andass, with theedge of the sword.
ButJoshua hadsaid unto thetwomen that had spiedout thecountry,Go into theharlot'shouse, and bringout thence thewoman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her.
And the youngmen that werespies wentin, and broughtoutRahab, and herfather, and hermother, and herbrethren, and all that she had; and they broughtout all herkindred, andleft themwithout thecamp of Israel.
And theyburnt thecity withfire, and all that was therein: only thesilver, and thegold, and thevessels ofbrass and ofiron, theyput into thetreasury of thehouse of the LORD.
AndJoshuasavedRahab theharlotalive, and herfather'shousehold, and all that she had; and shedwellethinIsrael even unto thisday; because shehid themessengers, whichJoshuasent to spyout Jericho.
AndJoshuaadjured them at thattime, saying,Cursed be themanbefore theLORD, that risethup andbuildeth thiscityJericho: he shall lay thefoundation thereof in hisfirstborn, and in hisyoungest son shall he setup the gates of it.
So theLORD was withJoshua; and hisfame was noised throughout all the country.
