AndSamson wentdown toTimnath, andsaw awoman inTimnath of thedaughters of the Philistines.
And he cameup, andtold hisfather and hismother, andsaid, I haveseen awoman inTimnath of thedaughters of thePhilistines: now thereforeget her for me to wife.
Then hisfather and hismothersaid unto him, Is therenever awoman among thedaughters of thybrethren, or among all mypeople, that thougoest totake awife of theuncircumcisedPhilistines? AndSamsonsaid unto hisfather,Get her for me; for she pleaseth mewell.
But hisfather and hismotherknew not that it was of theLORD, that hesought anoccasion against thePhilistines: for at thattime thePhilistines haddominion over Israel.
ThenwentSamsondown, and hisfather and hismother, toTimnath, andcame to thevineyards ofTimnath: and, behold, ayounglionroared against him.
And theSpirit of theLORD camemightily upon him, and herent him as he would haverent akid, and he hadnothing in hishand: but hetold not hisfather or hismother what he had done.
And he wentdown, andtalked with thewoman; and shepleasedSamsonwell.
And after atime hereturned totake her, and he turnedaside tosee thecarcase of thelion: and, behold, there was aswarm ofbees andhoney in thecarcase of the lion.
And hetook thereof in hishands, and wentoneating, andcame to hisfather andmother, and hegave them, and they dideat: but hetold not them that he hadtaken thehoney out of thecarcase of the lion.
So hisfather wentdown unto thewoman: andSamsonmade there afeast; for so used the youngmen to do.
And it came to pass, when theysaw him, that theybroughtthirty companions to be with him.
AndSamsonsaid unto them, I will now putforth ariddle unto you: if ye cancertainlydeclare it me within thesevendays of thefeast, and find itout, then I willgive youthirtysheets andthirtychange of garments:
But if yecannotdeclare it me, then shall yegive methirtysheets andthirtychange ofgarments. And theysaid unto him, Putforth thyriddle, that we may hear it.
And hesaid unto them, Out of theeater cameforthmeat, and out of thestrong cameforthsweetness. And theycould not inthreedaysexpound the riddle.
And it came to pass on theseventhday, that theysaid untoSamson'swife,Entice thyhusband, that he maydeclare unto us theriddle, lest weburn thee and thyfather'shouse withfire: have yecalled us to take that we have? is it not so?
AndSamson'swifewept before him, andsaid, Thou dost buthate me, andlovest me not: thou hast putforth ariddle unto thechildren of mypeople, and hast nottold it me. And hesaid unto her, Behold, I have nottold it myfather nor mymother, and shall I tell it thee?
And shewept before him thesevendays, while theirfeastlasted: and it came to pass on theseventhday, that hetold her, because she laysore upon him: and shetold theriddle to thechildren of her people.
And themen of thecitysaid unto him on theseventhday before thesun wentdown, What issweeter thanhoney? and what isstronger than alion? And hesaid unto them,If ye had notplowed with myheifer, ye had not foundout my riddle.
And theSpirit of theLORDcame upon him, and he wentdown toAshkelon, andslewthirtymen of them, andtook theirspoil, andgavechange of garments unto them whichexpounded theriddle. And hisanger waskindled, and he wentup to hisfather's house.
ButSamson'swife was given to hiscompanion, whom he had used as his friend.
