KJV · Textus Receptus
ThenwentSamson toGaza, andsaw there anharlot, and went in unto her.
And it was told theGazites, saying,Samson iscome hither. And they compassed himin, and laidwait for him allnight in thegate of thecity, and werequiet all thenight, saying, In themorning, when it isday, we shall kill him.
AndSamsonlay tillmidnight, andarose atmidnight, andtook thedoors of thegate of thecity, and thetwoposts, and wentaway with them, bar and all, andput them upon hisshoulders, and carried themup to thetop of anhill that isbefore Hebron.
And it came to passafterward, that heloved awoman in thevalley ofSorek, whosename was Delilah.
And thelords of thePhilistines cameup unto her, andsaid unto her,Entice him, andsee wherein hisgreatstrength lieth, and by what means we mayprevail against him, that we maybind him toafflict him: and we willgive thee everyone of us elevenhundred pieces of silver.
AndDelilahsaid toSamson,Tell me, I pray thee, wherein thygreatstrength lieth, and wherewith thou mightest bebound to afflict thee.
AndSamsonsaid unto her, If theybind me withsevengreenwiths that were neverdried, then shall I beweak, and be asanother man.
Then thelords of thePhilistines broughtup to hersevengreenwiths which had not beendried, and she bound him with them.
Now there were men lying inwait, abiding with her in thechamber. And shesaid unto him, ThePhilistines be upon thee,Samson. And hebrake thewiths, as athread oftow isbroken when ittoucheth thefire. So hisstrength was not known.
AndDelilahsaid untoSamson, Behold, thou hastmocked me, andtold melies: nowtell me, I pray thee, wherewith thou mightest be bound.
And hesaid unto her, If theybind mefast withnewropes that never wereoccupied, then shall I beweak, and be asanother man.
Delilah thereforetooknewropes, andbound him therewith, andsaid unto him, ThePhilistines be upon thee,Samson. And there were liers inwaitabiding in thechamber. And hebrake them from off hisarms like a thread.
AndDelilahsaid untoSamson,Hitherto thou hastmocked me, andtold melies:tell me wherewith thou mightest bebound. And hesaid unto her, If thouweavest thesevenlocks of myhead with the web.
And shefastened it with thepin, andsaid unto him, ThePhilistines be upon thee,Samson. And heawaked out of hissleep, and wentaway with thepin of thebeam, and with the web.
And shesaid unto him,How canst thousay, Ilove thee, when thineheart is not with me? thou hastmocked me thesethreetimes, and hast nottold me wherein thygreat strength lieth.
And it came to pass, when shepressed himdaily with herwords, andurged him, so that hissoul wasvexed unto death;
That hetold her all hisheart, andsaid unto her, There hath notcome arazor upon minehead; for I have been aNazarite untoGod from mymother'swomb: if I beshaven, then mystrength willgo from me, and I shall becomeweak, and be like any other man.
And whenDelilahsaw that he hadtold her all hisheart, shesent andcalled for thelords of thePhilistines, saying, Comeup thisonce, for he hathshewed me all hisheart. Then thelords of thePhilistines cameup unto her, andbroughtmoney in their hand.
And she made himsleep upon herknees; and shecalled for aman, and she caused him to shaveoff thesevenlocks of hishead; and shebegan toafflict him, and hisstrength went from him.
And shesaid, ThePhilistines be upon thee,Samson. And heawoke out of hissleep, andsaid, I will goout as at other timesbefore, andshake myself. And hewist not that theLORD was departed from him.
But thePhilistinestook him, and putout hiseyes, and brought himdown toGaza, andbound him with fetters ofbrass; and he didgrind in theprison house.
Howbeit thehair of hisheadbegan to growagainafter he was shaven.
Then thelords of thePhilistines gathered themtogether for tooffer agreatsacrifice untoDagon theirgod, and torejoice: for theysaid, Ourgod hathdeliveredSamson ourenemy into our hand.
And when thepeoplesaw him, theypraised theirgod: for theysaid, Ourgod hathdelivered into ourhands ourenemy, and thedestroyer of ourcountry, whichslew many of us.
And it came to pass, when theirhearts weremerry, that theysaid,Call forSamson, that he may make ussport. And theycalled forSamson out of theprisonhouse; and he madethemsport: and theyset him between the pillars.
AndSamsonsaid unto thelad thatheld him by thehand,Suffer me that I mayfeel thepillars whereupon thehousestandeth, that I may lean upon them.
Now thehouse wasfull ofmen andwomen; and all thelords of thePhilistines were there; and there were upon theroof aboutthreethousandmen andwomen, thatbeheld whileSamson made sport.
AndSamsoncalled unto theLORD, andsaid, OLordGOD,remember me, I pray thee, andstrengthen me, I pray thee, only thisonce, OGod, that I may be atonceavenged of thePhilistines for mytwo eyes.
AndSamson tookhold of thetwomiddlepillars upon which thehousestood, and on which it was borneup, of theone with his righthand, and of the r with his left.
And Samson said, Let me die with the Philistines. And he bowed himself with all his might; and the house fell upon the lords, and upon all the people that were therein. So the dead which he slew at his death were more than they which he slew in his life.
Then his brethren and all the house of his father came down, and took him, and brought him up, and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the buryingplace of Manoah his father. And he judged Israel twenty years.
