Chapter 7
KJV · Textus Receptus
ThenJerubbaal, who isGideon, and all thepeople that were with him, rose upearly, andpitched beside the well ofHarod: so that thehost of theMidianites were on the northside of them, by thehill ofMoreh, in the valley.
And theLORDsaid untoGideon, Thepeople that are with thee are toomany for me togive theMidianites into theirhands, lestIsraelvaunt themselves against me,saying, Mine ownhand hath saved me.
Now therefore goto, proclaim in theears of thepeople, saying, Whosoever isfearful andafraid, let himreturn and departearly frommountGilead. And therereturned of thepeopletwenty andtwothousand; and thereremainedten thousand.
And theLORDsaid untoGideon, Thepeople are yet toomany; bring themdown unto thewater, and I willtry them for thee there: and it shall be, that of whom Isay unto thee, This shallgo with thee, the same shallgo with thee; and of whomsoever Isay unto thee, This shall notgo with thee, the same shall not go.
So he broughtdown thepeople unto thewater: and theLORDsaid untoGideon, Every one thatlappeth of thewater with histongue, as adoglappeth, him shalt thouset by himself; likewise every one that bowethdown upon hisknees to drink.
And thenumber of them thatlapped, putting theirhand to theirmouth, werethreehundredmen: but all therest of thepeople boweddown upon theirknees todrink water.
And theLORDsaid untoGideon, By thethreehundredmen thatlapped will Isave you, anddeliver theMidianites into thinehand: and let all the otherpeoplego everyman unto his place.
So thepeopletookvictuals in theirhand, and theirtrumpets: and hesentall the rest ofIsrael everyman unto histent, andretained thosethreehundredmen: and thehost ofMidian was beneath him in the valley.
And it came to pass the samenight, that theLORDsaid unto him,Arise, get theedown unto thehost; for I havedelivered it into thine hand.
But if thoufear to godown,go thou withPhurah thyservantdown to the host:
And thou shalthear what theysay; andafterward shall thinehands bestrengthened to godown unto thehost. Then went hedown withPhurah hisservant unto theoutside of the armedmen that were in the host.
And theMidianites and theAmalekites and all thechildren of theeastlay along in thevalley likegrasshoppers formultitude; and theircamels were withoutnumber, as thesand by theseaside for multitude.
And whenGideon wascome, behold, there was aman thattold adream unto hisfellow, andsaid, Behold, Idreamed adream, and, lo, acake ofbarleybreadtumbled into thehost ofMidian, andcame unto atent, andsmote it that itfell, andoverturned it, that thetent lay along.
And hisfellowanswered andsaid, This is nothing else save thesword ofGideon theson ofJoash, aman ofIsrael: for into hishand hathGoddeliveredMidian, and all the host.
And it was so, whenGideonheard thetelling of thedream, and theinterpretation thereof, that heworshipped, andreturned into thehost ofIsrael, andsaid,Arise; for theLORD hathdelivered into yourhand thehost of Midian.
And hedivided thethreehundredmen intothreecompanies, and heput atrumpet in every man'shand, withemptypitchers, andlampswithin the pitchers.
And hesaid unto them,Look on me, anddo likewise: and, behold, when Icome to theoutside of thecamp, it shall be that, as Ido, so shall ye do.
When Iblow with atrumpet, I and all that are with me, thenblow ye thetrumpets also on everyside of all thecamp, andsay, The sword of theLORD, and of Gideon.
SoGideon, and thehundredmen that were with him, came unto theoutside of thecamp in thebeginning of themiddlewatch; and they hadbutnewlyset thewatch: and theyblew thetrumpets, andbrake thepitchers that were in their hands.
And thethreecompaniesblew thetrumpets, andbrake thepitchers, andheld thelamps in theirlefthands, and thetrumpets in theirrighthands toblow withal: and theycried, Thesword of theLORD, and of Gideon.
And theystood everyman in his place roundabout thecamp: and all thehostran, andcried, andfled.
And thethreehundredblew thetrumpets, and theLORDset everyman'ssword against hisfellow, even throughout all thehost: and thehostfled toBethshittah inZererath, and to theborder ofAbelmeholah, unto Tabbath.
And themen ofIsrael gathered themselvestogether out ofNaphtali, and out ofAsher, and out of allManasseh, andpursuedafter the Midianites.
AndGideonsentmessengers throughout allmountEphraim, saying, Comedownagainst theMidianites, andtake before them thewaters untoBethbarah andJordan. Then all themen ofEphraim gathered themselvestogether, andtook thewaters untoBethbarah and Jordan.
And theytooktwoprinces of theMidianites,Oreb andZeeb; and theyslewOreb upon therockOreb, andZeeb theyslew at thewinepress ofZeeb, andpursuedMidian, andbrought theheads ofOreb andZeeb toGideon on the otherside Jordan.
