Thencame thechildren ofIsrael, even the wholecongregation, into thedesert ofZin in thefirstmonth: and thepeopleabode inKadesh; andMiriamdied there, and was buried there.
2 And there was nowater for thecongregation: and theygathered themselves together againstMoses and against Aaron.
3 And thepeoplechode withMoses, andspake,saying, Would Godthat we haddied when ourbrethrendiedbefore the LORD!
4 And why have ye broughtup thecongregation of theLORD into thiswilderness, that we and ourcattle should die there?
5 And wherefore have ye made us to comeup out ofEgypt, tobring us in unto thisevilplace? it is noplace ofseed, or offigs, or ofvines, or ofpomegranates; neither is there anywater to drink.
6 AndMoses andAaronwent from thepresence of theassembly unto thedoor of thetabernacle of thecongregation, and theyfell upon theirfaces: and theglory of theLORD appeared unto them.
7 And theLORDspake untoMoses, saying,
8Take therod, andgather thou theassembly together, thou, andAaron thybrother, andspeak ye unto therock before theireyes; and it shall giveforth hiswater, and thou shalt bringforth to themwater out of therock: so thou shaltgive thecongregation and theirbeasts drink.
9 AndMosestook therod frombefore theLORD, as he commanded him.
10 AndMoses andAarongathered thecongregation togetherbefore therock, and hesaid unto them,Hear now, yerebels; must wefetch youwater out of this rock?
11 AndMoses liftedup hishand, and with hisrod hesmote therocktwice: and thewater cameoutabundantly, and thecongregationdrank, and their beasts also.
12 And theLORDspake untoMoses andAaron, Because yebelieved me not, tosanctify me in theeyes of thechildren ofIsrael, therefore ye shall notbring thiscongregation into theland which I have given them.
13 Thisis thewater ofMeribah; because thechildren ofIsraelstrove with theLORD, and he was sanctified in them.
14 AndMosessentmessengers fromKadesh unto theking ofEdom, Thussaith thybrotherIsrael, Thouknowest all thetravail that hath befallen us:
15 How ourfathers wentdown intoEgypt, and we havedwelt inEgypt alongtime; and theEgyptiansvexed us, and our fathers:
16 And when wecried unto theLORD, heheard ourvoice, andsent anangel, and hath brought usforth out ofEgypt: and, behold, we are inKadesh, acity in theuttermost of thy border:
17 Let uspass, I pray thee, through thycountry: we will notpass through thefields, or through thevineyards, neither will wedrink of thewater of thewells: we willgo by theking's highway, we will notturn to the righthand nor to theleft, until we havepassed thy borders.
18 AndEdomsaid unto him, Thou shalt notpass by me, lest I comeoutagainst thee with the sword.
19 And thechildren ofIsraelsaid unto him, We willgo by the highway: and if I and mycattledrink of thywater, then I willpay for it: I will only, without doing anything else, gothrough on my feet.
20 And hesaid, Thou shalt not gothrough. AndEdom cameoutagainst him withmuchpeople, and with astrong hand.
21 ThusEdomrefused togiveIsraelpassage through hisborder: whereforeIsrael turned away from him.
22 And thechildren ofIsrael, even the wholecongregation,journeyed fromKadesh, andcame untomount Hor.
23 And theLORDspake untoMoses andAaron inmountHor, by thecoast of theland ofEdom, saying,
24Aaron shall begathered unto hispeople: for he shall notenter into theland which I havegiven unto thechildren ofIsrael, because ye rebelledagainst myword at thewater of Meribah.
25TakeAaron andEleazar hisson, and bring themup untomount Hor:
26 AndstripAaron of hisgarments, andput them uponEleazar hisson: andAaron shall begathered unto his people, and shall die there.
27 AndMosesdid as theLORDcommanded: and they wentup intomountHor in thesight of all the congregation.
28 AndMosesstrippedAaron of hisgarments, andput them uponEleazar hisson; andAarondied there in thetop of themount: andMoses andEleazar camedown from the mount.
29 And when all thecongregationsaw thatAaron wasdead, theymourned forAaronthirtydays, even all thehouse of Israel.
