And whenkingArad theCanaanite, whichdwelt in thesouth, heard tell thatIsraelcame by theway of thespies; then hefought againstIsrael, andtook some of them prisoners.
AndIsraelvowed avow unto theLORD, andsaid, If thou wiltindeeddeliver thispeople into myhand, then I will utterlydestroy their cities.
And theLORDhearkened to thevoice ofIsrael, and deliveredup theCanaanites; and they utterlydestroyed them and theircities: and hecalled thename of theplace Hormah.
And theyjourneyed frommountHor by theway of theRedsea, tocompass theland ofEdom: and thesoul of thepeople was muchdiscouraged because of the way.
And thepeoplespake againstGod, and againstMoses, Wherefore have ye brought usup out ofEgypt todie in thewilderness? for there is nobread, neither is there anywater; and oursoulloatheth thislight bread.
And theLORDsentfieryserpents among thepeople, and theybit thepeople; andmuchpeople ofIsrael died.
Therefore thepeoplecame toMoses, andsaid, We havesinned, for we havespoken against theLORD, and against thee;pray unto theLORD, that he takeaway theserpents from us. AndMosesprayed for the people.
And theLORDsaid untoMoses,Make thee a fieryserpent, andset it upon apole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that isbitten, when helooketh upon it, shall live.
AndMosesmade aserpent ofbrass, andput it upon apole, and it came to pass, that if aserpent hadbitten anyman, when hebeheld theserpent ofbrass, he lived.
And thechildren ofIsrael setforward, andpitched in Oboth.
And theyjourneyed fromOboth, andpitched atIjeabarim, in thewilderness which isbeforeMoab, toward thesunrising.
From thence theyremoved, andpitched in thevalley of Zared.
From thence theyremoved, andpitched on the otherside ofArnon, which is in thewilderness that comethout of thecoasts of theAmorites: forArnon is theborder ofMoab, betweenMoab and the Amorites.
Wherefore it issaid in thebook of thewars of theLORD, What hedid in the Redsea, and in thebrooks of Arnon,
And at thestream of thebrooks that goethdown to thedwelling ofAr, andlieth upon theborder of Moab.
And from thence they went toBeer: that is thewell whereof theLORDspake untoMoses,Gather thepeopletogether, and I willgive them water.
ThenIsraelsang thissong, Springup, Owell; sing ye unto it:
Theprincesdigged thewell, thenobles of thepeopledigged it, by the direction of thelawgiver, with theirstaves. And from thewilderness they went to Mattanah:
And fromMattanah toNahaliel: and fromNahaliel to Bamoth:
And fromBamoth in thevalley, that is in thecountry ofMoab, to thetop ofPisgah, whichlookethtoward Jeshimon.
AndIsraelsentmessengers untoSihonking of theAmorites, saying,
Let mepass through thyland: we will notturn into thefields, or into thevineyards; we will notdrink of thewaters of thewell: but we will goalong by theking's highway, until we bepast thy borders.
AndSihon would notsufferIsrael topass through hisborder: butSihongathered all hispeopletogether, and wentoutagainstIsrael into thewilderness: and hecame toJahaz, andfought against Israel.
AndIsraelsmote him with theedge of thesword, andpossessed hisland fromArnon untoJabbok, even unto thechildren ofAmmon: for theborder of thechildren ofAmmon was strong.
AndIsraeltook all thesecities: andIsraeldwelt in all thecities of theAmorites, inHeshbon, and in all the villages thereof.
ForHeshbon was thecity ofSihon theking of theAmorites, who hadfought against theformerking ofMoab, andtaken all hisland out of hishand, even unto Arnon.
Wherefore they that speak inproverbssay,Come intoHeshbon, let thecity ofSihon bebuilt and prepared:
For there is afire goneout ofHeshbon, aflame from thecity ofSihon: it hathconsumedAr ofMoab, and the lords of the highplaces of Arnon.
Woe to thee,Moab! thou artundone, Opeople ofChemosh: he hathgiven hissons thatescaped, and hisdaughters, intocaptivity untoSihonking of the Amorites.
We haveshot at them;Heshbon isperished even untoDibon, and we have laid themwaste even untoNophah, which reacheth unto Medeba.
ThusIsraeldwelt in theland of the Amorites.
AndMosessent to spyoutJaazer, and theytook thevillages thereof, and droveout the Amorites that were there.
And theyturned and wentup by theway ofBashan: andOg theking ofBashan wentoutagainst them, he, and all hispeople, to thebattle at Edrei.
And theLORDsaid untoMoses,Fear him not: for I havedelivered him into thyhand, and all hispeople, and hisland; and thou shaltdo to him as thoudidst untoSihonking of theAmorites, whichdwelt at Heshbon.
So theysmote him, and hissons, and all hispeople, until there wasnoneleft himalive: and theypossessed his land.
