AndBalaamsaid untoBalak,Build me heresevenaltars, andprepare me heresevenoxen andseven rams.
AndBalakdid asBalaam hadspoken; andBalak andBalaamoffered on everyaltar abullock and a ram.
AndBalaamsaid untoBalak,Stand by thy burntoffering, and I willgo: peradventure theLORD willcome tomeet me: andwhatsoever hesheweth me I willtell thee. And hewent to an high place.
AndGodmetBalaam: and hesaid unto him, I havepreparedsevenaltars, and I haveoffered upon everyaltar abullock and a ram.
And theLORDput aword inBalaam'smouth, andsaid,Return untoBalak, and thus thou shalt speak.
And hereturned unto him, and, lo, hestood by his burntsacrifice, he, and all theprinces of Moab.
And he tookup hisparable, andsaid,Balak theking ofMoab hathbrought me fromAram, out of themountains of theeast, saying,Come, curse meJacob, andcome, defy Israel.
How shall Icurse, whomGod hath notcursed? or how shall Idefy, whom theLORD hath not defied?
For from thetop of therocks Isee him, and from thehills Ibehold him: lo, thepeople shalldwellalone, and shall not bereckoned among the nations.
Who cancount thedust ofJacob, and thenumber of thefourth part ofIsrael? Let medie thedeath of therighteous, and let my last end be like his!
AndBalaksaid untoBalaam, What hast thoudone unto me? Itook thee tocurse mineenemies, and, behold, thou hastblessed them altogether.
And heanswered andsaid, Must I not takeheed tospeak that which theLORD hathput in my mouth?
AndBalaksaid unto him,Come, I pray thee, with me untoanotherplace, from whence thou mayestsee them: thou shaltseebut theutmost part of them, and shalt notsee them all: and curse me them from thence.
And hebrought him into thefield ofZophim, to thetop ofPisgah, andbuiltsevenaltars, andoffered abullock and aram on every altar.
And hesaid untoBalak,Standhere by thy burntoffering, while Imeet the LORD yonder.
And theLORDmetBalaam, andput aword in hismouth, andsaid, Goagain untoBalak, and say thus.
And when hecame to him, behold, hestood by his burntoffering, and theprinces ofMoab with him. AndBalaksaid unto him, What hath theLORD spoken?
And he tookup hisparable, andsaid, Riseup,Balak, andhear;hearken unto me, thouson of Zippor:
God is not aman, that he shouldlie; neither theson ofman, that he shouldrepent: hath hesaid, and shall he notdo it? or hath hespoken, and shall he not make it good?
Behold, I havereceived commandment tobless: and he hathblessed; and I cannot reverse it.
He hath notbeheldiniquity inJacob, neither hath heseenperverseness inIsrael: theLORD hisGod is with him, and theshout of a king is among them.
God brought themout ofEgypt; he hath as it were thestrength of an unicorn.
Surely there is noenchantment againstJacob, neither is there anydivination againstIsrael: according to thistime it shall besaid ofJacob and ofIsrael, What hathGod wrought!
Behold, thepeople shall riseup as a greatlion, and liftup himself as a younglion: he shall not liedown until heeat of theprey, anddrink theblood of the slain.
AndBalaksaid untoBalaam, Neithercurse them atall, norbless them at all.
ButBalaamanswered andsaid untoBalak,Told not I thee, saying, All that theLORDspeaketh, that I must do?
AndBalaksaid untoBalaam,Come, I pray thee, I willbring thee untoanotherplace; peradventure it willpleaseGod that thou mayest curse me them from thence.
