Chapter 1
KJV · Textus Receptus
Thevision ofObadiah. Thussaith theLordGOD concerningEdom; We haveheard arumour from theLORD, and anambassador issent among theheathen,Arise ye, and let us riseup against her in battle.
Behold, I havemade theesmall among theheathen: thou artgreatly despised.
Thepride of thineheart hathdeceived thee, thou thatdwellest in theclefts of therock, whosehabitation ishigh; thatsaith in hisheart, Who shall bring medown to the ground?
Though thouexalt thyself as theeagle, and though thouset thynest among thestars, thence will I bring theedown, saith the LORD.
Ifthievescame to thee, ifrobbers bynight, (how art thou cutoff!) would they not havestolen till they hadenough? if thegrapegathererscame to thee, would they notleave some grapes?
How are the things ofEsau searchedout! how are hishidden things sought up!
All themen of thyconfederacy havebrought thee even to theborder: themen that were atpeace with thee havedeceived thee, andprevailed against thee; they that eat thybread havelaid awound under thee: there is none understanding in him.
Shall I not in thatday, saith theLORD, evendestroy thewise men out ofEdom, andunderstanding out of themount of Esau?
And thymighty men, OTeman, shall bedismayed, to the end that everyone of themount ofEsau may be cutoff by slaughter.
For thyviolence against thybrotherJacobshame shallcover thee, and thou shalt be cutoff for ever.
In theday that thoustoodest on the other side, in theday that thestrangers carried awaycaptive hisforces, andforeignersentered into hisgates, andcastlots uponJerusalem, even thou wast as one of them.
But thou shouldest not havelooked on theday of thybrother in theday that he became astranger; neither shouldest thou haverejoiced over thechildren ofJudah in theday of theirdestruction; neither shouldest thou havespokenproudly in theday of distress.
Thou shouldest not haveentered into thegate of mypeople in theday of theircalamity; yea, thou shouldest not havelooked on theiraffliction in theday of theircalamity, nor havelaid hands on theirsubstance in theday of their calamity;
Neither shouldest thou havestood in thecrossway, to cutoff those of his that didescape; neither shouldest thou have deliveredup those of his that didremain in theday of distress.
For theday of theLORD isnear upon all theheathen: as thou hastdone, it shall bedone unto thee: thyreward shallreturn upon thine own head.
For as ye havedrunk upon myholymountain, so shall all theheathendrinkcontinually, yea, they shalldrink, and they shall swallowdown, and they shall be as though they had not been.
But uponmountZion shall bedeliverance, and there shall beholiness; and thehouse ofJacob shallpossess their possessions.
And thehouse ofJacob shall be afire, and thehouse ofJoseph aflame, and thehouse ofEsau forstubble, and they shallkindle in them, anddevour them; and there shall not be anyremaining of thehouse ofEsau; for theLORD hath spoken it.
And they of thesouth shallpossess themount ofEsau; and they of theplain thePhilistines: and they shallpossess thefields ofEphraim, and thefields ofSamaria: andBenjamin shall possess Gilead.
And thecaptivity of thishost of thechildren ofIsrael shall possess that of theCanaanites, even untoZarephath; and thecaptivity ofJerusalem, which is inSepharad, shallpossess thecities of the south.
Andsaviours shall comeup onmountZion tojudge themount ofEsau; and thekingdom shall be the LORD'S.
