[To the chiefMusician, APsalm ofDavid, whenNathan theprophetcame unto him, after he had gonein toBathsheba.] Havemercy upon me, OGod, according to thylovingkindness: according unto themultitude of thy tendermercies blotout my transgressions.
2Wash methroughly from mineiniquity, andcleanse me from my sin.
3 For Iacknowledge mytransgressions: and mysin is ever before me.
4 Against thee, thee only, have Isinned, anddone thisevil in thysight: that thou mightest bejustified when thouspeakest, and beclear when thou judgest.
5 Behold, I wasshapen ininiquity; and insin did mymother conceive me.
6 Behold, thoudesiresttruth in the inwardparts: and in thehidden part thou shalt make me toknow wisdom.
7Purge me withhyssop, and I shall beclean:wash me, and I shall bewhiter than snow.
8 Make me tohearjoy andgladness; that thebones which thou hastbroken may rejoice.
9Hide thyface from mysins, and blotout all mine iniquities.
10Create in me acleanheart, OGod; andrenew arightspirit within me.
11 Cast me notaway from thypresence; andtake not thyholy spirit from me.
12Restore unto me thejoy of thysalvation; anduphold me with thyfree spirit.
13 Then will Iteachtransgressors thyways; andsinners shall be converted unto thee.
14Deliver me frombloodguiltiness, OGod, thouGod of mysalvation: and mytongue shall singaloud of thy righteousness.
15 OLord,open thou mylips; and mymouth shall shewforth thy praise.
16 For thoudesirest notsacrifice; else would Igive it: thoudelightest not in burnt offering.
17 Thesacrifices ofGod are abrokenspirit: abroken and acontriteheart, OGod, thou wilt not despise.
18 Dogood in thy goodpleasure untoZion:build thou thewalls of Jerusalem.
19 Then shalt thou bepleased with thesacrifices ofrighteousness, with burntoffering andwhole burntoffering: then shall theyofferbullocks upon thine altar.
