[To the chiefMusician uponShoshannim, A Psalm ofDavid.]Save me, OGod; for thewaters arecome in unto my soul.
2 Isink indeepmire, where there is nostanding: I amcome intodeepwaters, where thefloods overflow me.
3 I amweary of mycrying: mythroat isdried: mineeyesfail while Iwait for my God.
4 They thathate me without acause aremore than thehairs of minehead: they that woulddestroy me, being mineenemieswrongfully, aremighty: then Irestored that which I took not away.
5 OGod, thouknowest myfoolishness; and mysins are not hid from thee.
6 Let not them thatwait on thee, OLordGOD ofhosts, beashamed for my sake: let not those thatseek thee beconfounded for my sake, OGod of Israel.
7 Because for thy sake I havebornereproach;shame hathcovered my face.
8 I am become astranger unto mybrethren, and analien unto mymother's children.
9 For thezeal of thinehouse hath eaten meup; and thereproaches of them thatreproached thee are fallen upon me.
10 When Iwept, and chastened mysoul withfasting, that was to my reproach.
11 Imadesackcloth also mygarment; and I became a proverb to them.
12 They that sitin thegatespeak against me; and I was thesong of thedrunkards.
13 But as for me, myprayer is unto thee, OLORD, in anacceptabletime: OGod, in themultitude of thymercyhear me, in thetruth of thy salvation.
14Deliver me out of themire, and let me notsink: let me bedelivered from them thathate me, and out of thedeep waters.
15 Let not thewaterfloodoverflow me, neither let thedeep swallow meup, and let not thepitshut her mouth upon me.
16Hear me, OLORD; for thylovingkindness isgood:turn unto me according to themultitude of thy tender mercies.
17 Andhide not thyface from thyservant; for I am introuble:hear me speedily.
18 Drawnigh unto mysoul, andredeem it:deliver me because of mine enemies.
19 Thou hastknown myreproach, and myshame, and mydishonour: mine adversaries are all before thee.
20Reproach hathbroken myheart; and I am full ofheaviness: and Ilooked for some to takepity, but there was none; and forcomforters, but I found none.
21 Theygave me alsogall for mymeat; and in mythirst they gave mevinegar to drink.
22 Let theirtable become asnarebefore them: and that which should have been for theirwelfare, let it become a trap.
23 Let theireyes bedarkened, that theysee not; and make theirloinscontinually to shake.
24 Pourout thineindignation upon them, and let thywrathfulanger take hold of them.
25 Let theirhabitation bedesolate; and let nonedwell in their tents.
26 For theypersecute him whom thou hastsmitten; and theytalk to thegrief of those whom thou hast wounded.
27Addiniquity unto theiriniquity: and let them notcome into thy righteousness.
28 Let them beblotted out of thebook of theliving, and not bewritten with the righteous.
29 But I ampoor andsorrowful: let thysalvation, OGod, set me up on high.
30 I willpraise thename ofGod with asong, and willmagnify him with thanksgiving.
31 This also shallplease theLORDbetter than anox orbullock that hathhorns and hoofs.
32 Thehumble shallsee this, and beglad: and yourheart shalllive thatseek God.
33 For theLORDheareth thepoor, anddespiseth not his prisoners.
34 Let theheaven andearthpraise him, theseas, and every thing that moveth therein.
35 ForGod willsaveZion, and willbuild thecities ofJudah: that they maydwell there, and have it in possession.
36 Theseed also of hisservants shallinherit it: and they thatlove hisname shall dwell therein.
